Poker Mistakes and how to avoid them

by: Chris Bibey

Just like all casino games, there are poker mistakes that can bite you in the neck time after time. There are ways that you can learn about these common mistakes and in turn avoid them. At the same time, you need to realize that mistakes are going to happen. It is the way that you deal with them that will determine how much success you have, and whether or not your progress is going to be slowed down.

A common poker mistake is jumping into the action before you are ready. If you are not aware of the basics of the game you should stay away from the table for the time being. Sure, you need to practice, but you don’t want to find yourself in a situation where you are completely overmatched. Instead, look into honing your skills by playing with friends or finding a free online poker room.

What about your budget? If you say “what budget” there is something wrong. Many poker players think that they are so good that they will never lose money, and if they do, that they will win it back right away. You may be a great poker player, but unless you are super rich, you need to have a budget. This may limit you in some ways, but in the long run it is for the better. You don’t want to be in a position where you are betting money that is needed in other parts of your life. If this happens you are putting a lot of pressure on yourself to win.

You are not going to avoid every potential poker mistake; this is a given. But if you know what mistakes are lurking and how they can affect you, there is a better chance that you will be able to avoid them.
